I was just talking with one of my friends that has a grain grinder that he said he would let me have. The only thing is i have never gave grain to any of my cattle before. I was always told that it was just "cheap fat". lol. also another thing that he mentioned was how the grinder had a bale grinder on it also, he siad that he used to grind up straw and gass/alfalfa hay together to feed his cows because it was cheaper. So im just wondering if it would be a good idea to start graining the cows and mixing straw and hay together to feed also.

It depends on the condition of your cows and what the have to eat now whether they need grain. Grinding straw with good grass hay might make it cheaper but you might have to start supplementing with grain when you otherwise could of just fed good hay.
