Grain question

I have a grain producer here in town. I have the ratios for finishing a cow in the fall. Is there any need to feed grain when not finishing? if so, how much for a #700 cow?

Dustin what are your plans for the heifer?? Let her grow into a mature cow, breed and raise a calve or are you wanting to finish her for butchering?

I want to butcher her in the fall. That's a little ways away. Is grain needed for a maintenance weight? Will pasture put weight on her naturally?

No grain is not needed. Yes good pasture can and will put weight on her. But I'd give her 5 lbs of grain per day to push her along and double it to 10-12 lbs per day for the last 3 months to cut the gamey flavor of grass fed beef.
But that's just me.
