I own seven acres of pasture land and want to get a few
pieces of livestock to run on it so I can get ag exemption advantages. What
programs are out there for a guy like me? Can someone point me in the
right direction? Thank in advance for the help.

I've emailed them and am waiting for a response. I have heard that the gov't will pay for feed. fencing, shelter etc, as long as it's kept agricultural.
Dont know how true it is, just thought maybe some folks here
would have examples of personal experiences. Thanks!

Check weith your local USDA-NRCS office

What Dun said, but don't get your hopes up because most of the time the money is all gone ( TO THE BIG FARMER) before they get to you.

And they will only do a cost sharing on anything I have checked on, and with all the govt BS that goes with it, the cost will be higher and you might as well pay for it yourself and forget the paper work.

Around here you have to have at least 10 acres to qualify for ag exemptions. Like C HOLLAND said, the probably is no money in the programs. There are tons of government programs for things like this, but with everything else going on in the world, funding these programs isnt their top priority.

It's only seven acres, what about picking up your own expenses? Surely oops I mean Certainly, it wouldn't break you and you could have the old time pioneer satisfaction of being beholding to no man.

Great feeling. And then there is the pride of knowing you did it all for yourself. No silver spoon and no handout. Just reaping the rewards or hard labor and stubborn determination.

I'm curious what you've heard about ag exemptions? Generally we have to swear a secret oath and sign our names in blood to get info about these things.
Census calls you a farmer with $1000 in income.
IRS wants you to make a profit at some point. You can't lose money forever.
Indiana will give most anyone farm plates for a pickup. Or maybe it's just that the girls at the counter recognize the hayseed in my hair. But the plates save me the equivalent of a couple bales of hay a year. Not really much.
Any local farm organizations? Farm Bureau can answer a lot of guestions about this stuff.

That sounds just like what I did, ( PAID MY OWN WAY)unless you count the money from the timber I cut to fund it. I have found out that those govt programs are mainly there to give someone job security that works for the agency.

Well if we are being honest, for me it was digging up and selling limestone, another hobby.

I kind of thought this post and the one on the Pet Tiger was to incite CB but guess it did not work.

On a serious note, with 7 acres I would think what backhoeboogie says is best advice. Take a little time and get your fences up, maybe some portable panels as a catch pen. Little at a time and it should not be to financially burdensome to do on your own nickle instead of the Tax Payers.

If you are determined to get some government money then dun gave you the places to start looking.
