Here's a pic of the bull that I got today through Oddan's sale in Maidstone, SK. Not one of my top picks, but for the price, I think he'll do just fine. Looking forward to seeing him at 3 or 4 years when he's had time to fill out on pasture. What's your thoughts? :) Good or bad, I wanna hear 'em.

Looks to me like he will turn out to be a good one. What did you pay for him if u dont mind ?

I don't know much about Herefords but that's a high birth weight with not that high of weaning weight. I'm not putting him down I was wondering if that was about average for Herefords?

That bull will work fine for the price paid. I'd like to see a little more muscle and maybe a little pigment around the eyes.

And here we go with the idiots and the scrotums again. Newsflash bozo's: it is cold, there is snow on the ground.

For all you men (or if your a woman, get your husband)to do it. The next time it is in the 20's outside, strip down to your birthday suit and go outside for 30 minutes and observe your scrotum and see what happens!!

All the bulls for sale were between the 1600 and 1850 pound range. There were a few smaller than him, so I put him around 1700.

Good looking bull and should be very impressive at 4 years old.
long as he aint black they all look good to you
 :)

You sure impress everyone with your fine use of the english language.

Wow Cowboy-up! Where did that come from?

I would think the guy just might be an expert on "his" anatomy and he is just relaying his expertise and experience to us....geez!

So we have an understanding...... ;-) :D

Aaron,

Nice looking bull. Classic Hereford look. Nice length, and good shoulder. Would like to see a little more thickness in the rear/hip, but he should do fine. The pigment wont matter much depending on the cross, and he does have some pigmentation showing in the scrotal (unless he was frost nipped...check with nortexsook on that one :D ) so he could throw some occasional pigmentation. Not a bad investment. What are you crossing him with?

He'll be running with some of both my purebred Hereford herd and my father's straightbred Hereford herd. He actually reminds me a lot of our junior herdsire that we lost in October. Would like to see pigment on the eyes and a white neck, but I think our cows will be able to even the odds in those two areas.

Hopefully this guy will give us a little thicker hair coat and maybe some better growth from weaning to yearling. Our main concern is keeping the length, and strength in the back, on our steers and heifers, so this fellow should keep those standards up.
