Why are they striking? I knew some folks in Alabama who worked for Goodyear and they made some serious bucks but were always wanting more. Never could understand it.

From what I understood, that led to quite a bit of drug use, speed, in order to increase production and salaries. Sounds like most of you folks would rather buy your tires from china. After we get are butts kicked from South American beef, maybe we can sell ours to china (hey right). We'd be better off supporting American Workers. They're buying what I produce. I went on a tour of Peru this past summer. They have some sorry looking cattle. But they are some hard working folks. They may make about 200.00 per year, I'll bet alot less than that. I did not see much powered eqiupment. They would love to import all the hamburger we let them.
I guess what I'm getting at, we shouldn't knock the tire workers. Our turn is coming (I would say its here). Someday we may not have enough revenue to keep air in our old tractors.

Don't know anything about this specific strike, but in Miami OK I remember for years it seemed like the workers were going on strike every few years at the B.F. Goodrich tire plant.
These guys were making some serious money in the 70's and early 80's. In this community if you worked at the Goodrich plant you were looked upon as being rich. But after numerous strikes and economy problems. Goodrich closed the plant down.
Lots of them killed themselves, lost their homes, went to work for jobs at minimum wage or little higher. Most of them probably do not make close to as much money 20 years later as they did then.
There has to be a balance and when you got it good don't try to rape the company. Might come back to bite you in the butt.

That works several ways. Know a guy who was renting a commercial building. The owner doubled the rent so he moved out. Building have been vacant for 2 and a half years now. Owner is paying taxes with no income.

I owned an old shop building in town I stored my equipment and cars in. Mechanic made me an offer I could not refuse and since I had moved out of town to the farm it made it an easy choice to sale. That was 5 years ago and to this day no one has rented the old shop building. He so far has lost 5 years of rent.
