This year has been one I will long remember with the drought. I'm sure it has been trying times for others as it has for me. We have been in a 20" deficit and haven't had any appreciable rains in over four months. (1/4 inch) Until this weekend. Got 1" Friday and it started drizzling Saturday afternoon and it has been pouring since 3 with no signs of it letting up.

Though I had a well to go dry and I lost most of my winter grazing and got 1/2 a hay crop, this rain is the harbinger of renewed hopes for a prosperous new year. Hope all who need it are getting their fair share as well and hope this is a sign to all of good grazing to come in 2007. I'm convinced it is!

In the new year, may your grass grow your cows calve and your toils be rewarded. Good luck and may God bless your farm and family!

Went out to feed the cows when the rain stopped. Its amazing how much a place can change with 2 inches of water! Year is off to a good start, though a few days early, have six new calves on the ground with three ladies demanding privacy. Guess they wanted to take advantage of the rainy weather - heavens forbid they calve on a pretty day! Guess those Automatic Inseminators are still doing their job!

My ryegrass started perking up last week. I nitrated on Wed and the rains started on Thursday.

I can see it growing. Glad ya'll are getting some too.
