I don't know if this calf is all that lengthy or all that deep. I do think he is pretty. You never know at a year old how they will work. I can show you lots of 2yr old or 3yr old bulls that are long and deep and would be the same age as the one you was asking about . Or looks that way to me.

Some nice bulls MickC.Thanks for the links. Ollie it is interesting that that you think the bull on my post " here is your chance" is 2 or 3 years old. I guess considering that at the time of those pictures he was only a 1 year old he must be a real good grower.

He looks younger in the second pic. If he is weighing 1200 then he is a good grower. Good bulls should weigh around 100 lbs per mo. depending on the forage and development after weaning. I thought in the first pic that his head looked older than 1yr. I was wrong. I appologize. I thought you were guessing his age in the photo. I thought you were borrowing him from someone else or something like that. I guess I should read closer. I am sorry for being critical. I still don't think he is thick enough but if you're satisfied then that is what matters. Good luck

Hey Ollie no worries. I really do want to know what people think that is why I asked. I am thinking along the same lines as you anyway. He was 378 days old and 1148 lb in those pic. Both his sire and grand sire were 2500 lb bulls. I could uses some of that fast growth and size in my calves. And of course it dont hurt to be black these days.

A cow should weigh about 2/3 as much as her brothers.

With that in mind, if I want 1200 pound cows, then I better stick to 1800-1900 pound bulls.

Good 1200 pound cows should be a 2 frame. If that is the market you have then yes, I agree, stick to 1800 lb bulls.[/b]
