Picked up a "purebred" black angus bull last year, third calf out of him came yesterday. First calf was out of a black baldy heifer, solid black calf, not a speck of white. Second was out of a reg. Hereford cow, black baldy. Third was yesterday out of another reg. Hereford cow, a red white face calf. The wheels started turning and realized I had some perfect craigslist calves, I purebred black angus heifer, a black baldy heifer and a purebred Hereford heifer...
On a serious note three nice heifer calves, exposed feet to ground less then 20 minutes, all calves up and nursing within a few minutes. Just a little surprised about the variety of color and would expect a 1/4 Hereford calf would at least be a little brockled faced. I guessing bull must have carried a red gene or not purebred.
