GM extended warranty

We bought a 2018 3/4 ton Chevrolet pickup and was talked into a 5 year extended warranty for $5000 at the time.
No problems with the truck at all till now,
Hopefully it's not much something to do with the steering or maybe a suspension bushing.
Wife called and asked if it was still under warranty and they said should be provided that we had the oil regularly changed at certified shops and had a yearly inspection.
First we had heard about the inspection was today. I'm sure if we were told that that we would remember and would have been having it done.
Is that customary for them to do yearly inspections?
Edited to add that apparently a broken belt in a tire is the issue.

New vehicles come with 36 month warranties, right? So 5K for an extra two years?

I worked for three dealerships and they buy warranties to be resold. The mark-up on them is tremendous. It was common for the dealership to sell $300 (their cost) warranties for $1800 or so. You can negotiate the warranty price if you know this.

Our understanding is that it was an additional 5 years.
We felt like we got took on that warranty deal after we thought about it and it sank in.
 
I'm a big fan of them because I always come out on top. At some point with in 100K miles some thing will have to be done. It's nothing to rack up a thousand bucks on a newer truck. I had some buttons quit working on the seat adjustment and it was $600. I have gotten them to cover front end parts too. They say a tie rod should last Xamount of miles. I was driving gravel roads so I was wearing them out sooner. They covered it because it was premature wear.

A lot of it depends on the service dept at the dealer and how willing they are to fight for you.
 
we had quite a few trucks and I've been buying an extended GMC warranties for long time they go to 125,000 Miles . I have used the warranty many times to fix issues over the years.
There was no requirement for changing oil or anything else. I actually change my own oil.
Although I did have to take it to a GM certified service center.
 
Some of those are through the dealer. A local toyota dealer has forever warranty. But it only for individuals wife looked at one for her vet truck they said no. Some you have to get oil changed at that stealership. I have never bought one. And never dealt with a dealership after warranty.
 
I can't imagine any kind of car warranty covering a broken tire belt? Tires are disposable wear n tear items on any vehicle, always excluded from even bumper to bumper car kind of car warranties. For a tire failure issue, I think you need to take it up with the tire manufacturer. Only if it has failed under its rated milage or other warranty under normal conditions. And good luck proving that even so

Go back and read the original post. We didn't know what the issue was at the time of the original post. At that time we were going off of a possible suspension bearing or something in the steering per a mechanic relative that had not looked at it. We contacted the dealership about what it would cost to fix if that was the problem. Their quote was around $2500 or $3000. Being the fact that we had purchased an extended warranty we thought it was worth a try to see if it would cover the repair cost. Nothing out of reason about that.
We then took it to a tire shop that also does some mechanic work, to see what the actual diagnosis was. Turns out it was a broken belt in a tire. We had two tires replaced with no further mention of warranty.
Nowhere did I ever mention warranty covering tires.
My main reason for the post was to question about a yearly vehicle inspection by the dealership garage as part of the condition of the warranty.
