Has anyone used glyphosate immediately after cutting bermuda hay pasture to try and control bahia? I've heard this works but it scares me a bit; afraid of destroying the entire hay field. Anyone have any actual results?

Thanks!

Thanks for the replys. I am familiar with Cimarron and have used it before. However the recommended application time to control bahia is in the spring, prior to seed head formation. I was just looking to get a head start on control. I did not want to use it this past spring because of the drought we had been under - not knowing if we would get rain to allow the coastal to spread.

Thanks!

12 ounces of RU does a good job on vassey grass. Not sure about bahia. Problem I see if you are in a drought, no herbicide is going to work that well. JMO

Jogeephus I have a problem with vassey grass also, are you applying the round up immediately after cutting hay and how bad does it stunt the grass. I have a neighbor that just sprayed a field with a pint to the acre to kill bahia grass and it has stunted it pretty bad. Probably set it back 2-3 weeks.

Cadre will hurt it worse than that. Don't you hate the stuff. This is my personal war!

The best advice I can give you is to wait till a good frost and spray it with 12 ounces of roundup. (I messed up and sprayed 14 but it didn't hurt anything) At first I thought I wasted my time but this spring the field was rid of vassey grass and it was as clean a cutting as I have ever had - except where I missed spraying. (no foam markers)

I see my next battle is going to be the seed. Didn't address this last year and I can find some new sprouts. My plan is to hit it again after the frost then follow up with a preemergent to block the seed germination. But really and truly, I was amazed at how susceptible vassey is to roundup. Good Luck with your war!
