Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly

change things:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were

born in 1985. They are too young to remember the space shuttle

blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

The CD was introduced the year they were born.

They have always had an answering machine.

They have always had cable or Dish TV.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show (Who's Johnny Carson?).

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave (What's a popcorn

popper?).

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a

Camel", or "de plane Boss, de plane".

McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter (What do we mean the

fact that the Dan Rather documents were made in Word proves they're

fakes?).

If you need to tell them a story, you may need to start with a

disclaimer, "Now this was back before the Internet or cell phones,

so...."

Do you feel old yet? (Sorry) Pass this on to the other "old fogies" on

your list. Notice the larger type, that's for those of you who have

trouble reading. There's probably more, but don't expect most of us

to remember most of it.

Well, I guess I am moving into the older crowd as I have knowlege of BETA before VHS before DVD before--well there's probably something new that I don't know about! I had to have a 7th grader explain MP3 players a while back! They probably don't even understand rotary dialing! And I think I am still young! Maybe I will have to rethink that! I am young with LOTS more experience! :D

I hadn't thought of 75 as being a long time ago. But as an age, that's getting some seniority

dun

How about throwing in records and record players, dial telephones, outhouses, wringer washing machines, black and white tv's and oh sh** I had a brain fart and can't think of any more.

Or NOT having a clothes dryer, dishwasher, microwave, etc.

Or using "stretchers" when hanging jeans on the clothesline.

Only having one TV

Party lines

Pouring oil in a pot along with the kernals and actually popping corn on the stove.

Eating "field corn" that actually had some pretty good taste.

Going to the ice house for crushed ice so you could crank some homemade ice cream

Sneaking up on, and scaring or at least greatly annoying, the "parkers" that were parked late at night on the side of gravel roads bordering your grandpa's farm.

how about walking to school, doing math without a calculator, the "hip-huggers" of the 70's vs the "low-rise" jeans of today....platform shoes vs "chunky-clunky" shoes today...amazing to see how my 15 year old demolition derby driver thinks her generations invented "flare-leg" jeans....gee, don't they sorta resemble the old bell-bottoms i remember wearing as a young girl....now, i am only waiting with great anticipation for the crazy 80's to return.....the hair, the make-up, the up-turned collars, the cars, the music, etc.....am i the only one who loves to see my kids' faces when they look through my old high school yearbooks??!!! "gee, mom....did you really wear your hair like THAT??"

I've always said you know your growing old when you quit worrying about growing old and start worrying about not growing old.
