Anybody in Ga. or Ala. know where I can get some Tift9 seed at a decent price.I want to try it in a new pasture but cant seem to find any around my area.Its $ 235 for 40# on seedland. If I cant get it no cheaper than that Im just gonna go with P-Cola. Thanks J.J.

$235 for 40 lbs.? You got to be kidding. Heck, you can sprig bermuda for less than that. How many pounds do you need?

$235?? I don't know anything about Georgia but we can get Tifton 85 sprigged here for $95 an acre.Z

There were some unscrupulous seed dealers selling Tif 9 bahia seed a few years ago that was not certified and in fact tested to be normal Pensacola Bahia.

Lots of local retail outlets quit dealing with it because of the controversy.

My neighbor planted 200 acres 8 years ago in bahia for hay.

100 of it in Pensacola (because he couldn't get Tif 9 seed at the time) and 100 of it in Tif 9.


He has been unable to detect a yield difference between them.

I probably only need 250# .I know I could sprig cheaper than $235 for 40# but all my other grass is bahia.I been curious to try it.Mike C Ive heard it was overated in yielding.Any other comments or expiriences with Tift 9 would be appreciated.thank yall that did.

Tift 9 is a variety of Pcola. I got two fields of each separated by a highway. I can't tell the difference except T9 seems to green up a little earlier. Theoretically, it is supposed to yield 47% more forage. If it does, I sure can't tell it. Maybe, the certified sticker on the seedbag was bogus like Mike mentioned. The $235 sounds ridiculous to me. I wouldn't waste my money on it if I had to pay that much.

If you know where a field is, cut a barrell in half and mount the two halves to the front of your truck and drive through the field. Before you know it, you'll have the drums full of seeds for nothing. If this is against some Seed Law, don't ask me how I know it will work - I just know it does. ;-)
