Can you use gentamiacin sulfate in cattle, and if so what is it used for?

I sold some cattle to a guy that runs about 3000 feeders, anyway he had several 250ml bottles of gentamiacin sulfate in his truck. I asked him about it and he said it was a good med for cattle. He didnt elaborate much, so i didnt push it.
It got my interest up and i cant find anything on the net.

Nope.

It's a prohibited drug, causes drug residues up to 24 months, and it'll get you in big trouble if you're found using it or sell an animal that's been treated with it.

In short, don't use it.

I have always been told that it was a prohibited drug. But one thing that is confusing is you see gentamiacin listed on some vaccines as a preservative. Is that a different form?

To the best of my knowledge it's not a different form, and I honestly don't know how to explain its use in vaccines. :???: I've wondered that before. Maybe Vicky will step in and explain it.

Gentamycin is a scary antibiotic to be using, as it leaves residues for so long in the body after it's use....that is if it doesn't fry the kidneys on the way by....

It is used in vaccines as a preservative, and will result in undetectable levels when used correctly.

Clear as mud?

I havent used it but was just wondring, since the label doesnt say a thing about cattle.
