This is probably trivial:

In one of our sets of cows (about 90 head), all calves have one of two nose colors with the exception of three black-nosed calves. None of the cows with black-nosed calves have black noses. Only one of the bulls bred to those cows has a black nose. Is it safe to assume the black-nosed bull sired the three black-nosed calves, or would a supporting trait be needed?

short from a DNA test, I'd run off the assumption that he is the dam.

Sidenote --- Reds with the black nose... I like those a lot.
My annual bonus is my pick of the calf crop. There are 3 cows I want a heifer from. The heifer pictured was a contender before she was born, because of her mother. I also think she's beautiful.

They are all Mushrush Simmangus
Those bulls would have black noses in their backgrounds too through the red angus. Genetics are funny and recessive genes can lurk around a long time before presenting themselves. But I'd still bet the black nose came from the black bull and the red hair is from a co-dominant gene.

I appreciate ya'll for indulging me. As I said, this is not a super serious topic. I don't think my description was clear. Let's try photos, shall we?
