To many people Robert E. Lee is remembered as a great man of many accomplishments. He was a scholar, educator, soldier, general, college president. Most importantly, he stands forth as a model of a Christian gentleman of the highest order.

His birthdate is Thursday, Jan. 19. Some of you may want to join me in remembering this man.

Ryder,Thanks for posting that. Robert E. Lee was a true Hero. It's a Southern thing that a lot of folks dont understand. I'm sure the "PC" people would just as soon sweep it under the carpet and pretend there was no such person. In my administration, January 19th will be a Holiday.

How many Americans know that Union soldiers were trying to humiliate Robert E. Lee's wife by burying some of their dead soldiers on her property? They did so and continued to do so and eventually it became the cemetary we now know as Arlington National Cemetary.

GEN.LEE was not a bigot are racist nor was he for slavery the north wanted him but he would not lift up arms against his native state or the south. we had some kick a$$ renagades gen. like FORREST,ANDERSON,MOSBY,QUANTRILL these fellers was open for business now the P.C folks might not like them but im thinking they wouldnt care anyway ;-)

There is a Memorial service planned here in Montgomery on Thurs at the Conferate Memorial/First White House of the Confederacy.

Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson are true heroes.

God bless them both.

Amen to the above, even Grant was not half the gentleman that Lee was, as he so freely admitted upon entering the room at Appomatix Court House and meeting the venerable General Robert E. Lee.
I might also add, that Lee was in fact Grants superior while at West Point, and in fact Grant was Lee's pupil!

As for the house taken from the Lee family...you are so right. The point was to bring the graves up against the house, literally, so that no one may ever chose to live there again.

Would truly love it one day if the schools taught the real reasons behind the war of seperation.....It had absolutley nothing to do with slavery until the emancipation proclomation of 1863...at least two years into the war of northern agression against the south. :cboy:

Long live the south, and all the gentlemen it may raise! Even though I may not be one of them! Ha! ;-)

I knew that. Arlington was the General's plantation. Happy Birthday General.

Abe? Naaaaaaaaa

"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the White and Black races--that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with White people, and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the White and Black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the White race. . . I give. . . the most solemn pledge that I will to the very last, stand by the law of the State, which forbids the marrying of white people with negroes." - Abraham Lincoln (Fourth Debate with Stephen Douglas at Charleston, Illinois on September 18, 1858, Vol. III, p. 145-146 of The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln).

But they love Abe. Probably because Jesse Jackson told them to.

Just let it go, and be proud to be an AMERICAN. We have enemies right now, plotting to cause our Nation harm. They will strike again. If you must be opinionated or angry, BE ANGRY ABOUT 9/11 and never forget the innocent Americans who were killed that day. They were at there place of employment so that means lots of American Families lost someone. What about those pictures of Americans who lept to their deaths rather than burn in the Towers. Oh ya, stay Angry, but focus your Anger in the appropriate direction. Forget the Cival War, we have Americans dying every day in Afganistan and Iraq. Get-R-Dun GW!

I agree with you on 9/11 and the war and terrorists but what you are saying now WILL be remembered 100 years from now just as the war between the North and the South is still remembered. There are things in history that will NEVER be forgotten.

My great great granddaddy was a Confederate private who received a Yankee mini ball in the mouth. He was stitched up, grew a beard to cover the scar and re-enlisted. Named his son Robert E. Lee. One of my great, great, great granddaddys is buried in Atlanta where he died defending the city from Sherman's invasion. Confederate blood runs deep and true in my veins, but I am an American and pledge my allegiance to Old Glory. Our northern friends on this board may not understand our fierce loyalty to the South. But our people have been a conquered people and and the South has been ridiculed, sterotyped, and misunderstood ever since 1865. We live in a region in which we are extremely proud to reside in and our heritage is something that residents of other parts of the country may not be able to grasp. However, we are all members of the greatest nation the world has ever known and that is something that all Americans can be proud of!
