As I posted in another topic I moved cows today, Well I noticed that a little heifer that I have is frosty or white colored everywhere. She wasnt that way when she was born and I really just noticed it. I will try to post pic tommorow. Could this be a diluter gene showing up? Just had to ask someone. JHH

I don't think the diluter gene would show that way. The diluter would show itself as a yellow hair coat, but not all yellow in Herefords would be the result of the diluter(I think). We've had some frosty spots on some dark red ones, not sure what caused it.

A few years ago I had a Jersey Hereford cross heifer I bottle fed from 3 days old. She was a beautiful red color with a few white spots. At 8 mths old almost overnight she turned black with red highlights and white spots. She had become the ugliest heifer I've ever seen. Each time after calving she would turn a pretty red again, a few weeks later back to the black. The dam was the Jersey (full blood) the sire a hereford (full blood). She was just the strangest looking cow. We never had any idea what or why this color change happened.
