It that time of the year to tell people about my steam jenny for unthawing any thing

take a barbecue sized propane tank
take off the tap on top
screw in a nipple
put T on top of that
screw in tap on the side of the t
put another nipple on top of the t
a cap on top of that ( this is for putting water in only)
put hose on the tap (I used an old pressure washer hose )

put 2-3 inches of water inside ---no more
put tiger torch on the outside heat it up until it burps and and makes a few noises
open the tap and you've got steam and you can just about thaw anything

That's the problem with the internet,to much cool information and then my brain loses track of it. I remember now you sharing this with us last year and I had full intentions of making one. Even have most of the parts already. Didn't you run the steam through a pressure washer hose? Funny cause I'm just finnishing a coffee before going out to unthaw the well system yet again. Woke up this morning to no water in the house. Do you think your system is safe to use on plastic waterline?

We keep heater in our well house. When stock tanks get ice in them, we just chop open about a 1-2 sq ft hole as needed. Leave rest of ice to serve as "insulation".

Pain in buttocks; however, we don't have to do this more than very few days a year...this week will probably be the longest ice chipping period we've had in past 5 years.

Where is Global Warming when you need it???

Carlos one thing you do need a pressure gauge and relief valve if you don't have them you are playing with a bomb. I have made a steamer as well but i have a relief valve and pressure gauge this allows you to fill more water and allows a longer steam time and you don't have to listen for burps, if the pressure gets too high the relief valve blows and you can check pressure after a few uses you will know when to start steaming. this is alot safer

Hey carlos ,yeah those old tanks arepretty tough you might just find out if it blows up. A relief valve and pressure gauge is pretty cheap to buy and well worth the investment.
