My son decided to show pigs for 4h this year so we bought 4 from a friend. They grew too fast for the fair so we brought 2 to the locker. They bought one and we kept one. We haven't butchered a pig in years and it sure tastes good! Chops on the grill and ham slices. Gonna try the bacon this morning.

Sounds good..nothing like fresh pork. YOu'll probably have to add cooking oil to the bacon as show pigs are extremely lean.

You forgot to add flavorless, TB. If you want some good eating pigs stay away from all the specialized show feed and throw out some junk occasionally. Best pork I've ever raised was a couple of Durocs that were started on finisher a month before they should have been.

The best tasting ones are the ones that are only fed slop. Just takes longer to grow em.

Those are the ones you measure how good they are by how many buckets of lard they rendered out.

These weren't "show" pigs like the big guns show. Just Ai sows bred to a regular boar. The one pig gained 3# a day. They had the.life of Riley. Big pen and only four in there. We're trying to hold two to see if we can do it. Our pig weighed 240# and the. Bacon is perfect, going to try hard not to eat it all before the tomatoes are ripe :)
