Hello can any one tell me is it ok to feed cattle fresh mowed grass clippings I have a large bagger and have thought why waste it to compost wouldn't this be just like silage also any suggestions for storing it i have a hobby farm and try to use everything also i use no chemicals on my lawn thanks for the help :tiphat:

Fine for a cow, although mine never eat them. Potentially deadly for a horse. It wouldn't be just like silage, unless you made silage out of it. I've seen haylage made a few times. I guess grass clippings would work to. I have a huge yard. I built my house as a young man, not realizing what old age does to you. I now realize the mistake of doing so. I often while away the hours of mowing by trying to calculate how many tons of roughage I mow down annually.

I hear you bigfoot, I am currently moving my fences closer to the house for that very reason. I am upgrading the fences close to the house from high tensile to board fence for aesthetic reasons though. Neighbor feeds grass clippings to his cattle and they seem to like it just fine.

I feed my clippings to my horses, been doing it for years, and I've had no problems. I feed it as I'm cutting. I don't pile it up and then feed it later. Horses come running when they see me get the mower out.

Are they high dollar horses?
