Freemartin

Help Support CattleToday:

Twin to a bull calf. Run a search, you'll find more info than you know what to do with.

I have one right now along with her twin brother. On mine, she has all this hair growth around her vulva and her teats are strange looking. Very very small and more than there should be, in her case. Looks like some are grown together. They are both headed back to the sale barn here shortly, as soon as I get her twin's cough cleared up. If you look at a heifer calf that you know isn't a Free Martin, then you will be able to get an idea of what to look for on your's. No one will tell you what you are getting at the sale barn, and sometimes not even at other sales.

A fremartin is a female twin to a bull calf. It will have a higher testosterone level and therefore underdeveloped female reproductive organs. It will most likely be sterile.

I have fattened 2 free martins for our own meat. They seem to be good doing cattle, just stand around and eat. Very good meat. 8)
