In theory iodine in the minerals will prevent it, didn;t work for us but has for others. We use LA200 twice and if that doesn;t knock it we use Excenel

Ponds can be a cause of foot rot according to our vet. He also recommends antibiotic and koppertox applied on the hoof.
We use a lot of koppertox on all kind of foot problems. Sometimes we will use it and ioding and antibiotic. Do it all my husband says. He doesn't want to get them up again if it can be helped.

If it's caught early, just an application of kopertox is sufficient to eliminate hoof rot. Otherwise, LA200 and kopertox does the trick for my herd.

There are measures you can take to help prevent foot rot. Make sure your tanks have floats on them so they don't overflow. Keep the weeds eradicated around the tanks. Keep your pastures free of debris. This is a link to an article put out by the University of Nebraska at Lincoln that has some good information.

We use Eddi salt- organic iodide- to prevent it. We mix this with trace mineral salt and feed it free choice. it does a pretty good job of preventing it. still occasionally one gets it and then we treat it with LA200.
