Going to try fly ear tags this year. I'm the only cattle farm in my area and use larvacide in the mineral already. I don't use fly rubs. What ear tag would you recommend trying? My primary goal would be to control face flies for disease transmission issues. The larvacide seems to do pretty well with the horn flies.

This tag is they only one that actually seems to claim some level of face fly protection - the others say they "aid" in face fly protection.

I am by no means an expert on the subject. I have only used Bayer, but was very happy with the results.
 
I brought in the tiny parasitic wasps 12 ago and there are zillions of them now, but still plenty of flies!
(I do think they help a little--maybe)
I find it more effective to put a fly tag on the BACK of the ear (and it's hard to find a tag that works in
northeast Texas, I think it was Bayer that worked for me, too). I spray on Ultraboss by hand as needed, but have a fairly small,
gentle herd (Foundation Beefmasters). Also, if your neighbors don't control their flies, will Rabon blocks still help some, CB? (haven't tried them, how do you get them to consume enough, is that a problem?)
 
Double barrel seem to work okay here. I have not tried the Bayer.

My guess is the best one is going to be the one you neighbors are not using. :D

Wear gloves when you handle those (the ones in your link). If you touch your skin with those gloves, you'd better flush with water or you'll feel the burn.
 
Interesting. No cattle anywhere in my area so no neighbors to bring flies in. That said, I think I've been talked out of them.
 
My best results lately have been with Rubs at the salt box ( forced to use) or spraying.I know spraying is a problem for some but you get to see the cattle up close that way.
