Fly Control Additive

I know there are loose mineral mixes that have fly control added to it. Is there anything that I can add to my existing loose mineral that I have?

This won't answer your question, but I gave up on controling flies-------Beyond fly tags. They are even short lived IMHO.

We bought some. . 50# bag made by bayer.. mix 5 to 5.5 oz to a 50# bag of mineral or 50# bag to a ton of mineral. Razon i think. Was 89 bucks

We got Altosid from Vigortone and added it to our minerals one year when we had a lot of minerals from previous years that didn;t have it already added. I just dumped it in an old cement mixer with the minerals to mix it.

I use Rabon added to Purina Hi Mag during fly season. I mix it the same way dun does, cement mixer in the salt room, works great.

Most fly minerals use Altosid or Rabon. don't know if they are available retail or not but feed mills should have them. Altosid comes in such a weak concentration (.1% I believe it is) that's it's not worth it and you ahve to have special permit to buy the Altosid 2%......Rabon has been around for ages and still works well. I'm sure youc an find it as well but have no idea what the inclusion rate would be for mixing. Neither are going to harm anything if you get it a bit strong.

The feed store told us that 14# would do a ton of mineral. So i broke it down in ounces and comes out to be around 5.5 oz for 50# of rabon

Are you saying 5.5 oz of fly control mixed with 50lbs of mineral?

My math was 2 lbs of Rabon 7.76% to 50 lbs. That was assuming 4 oz daily/hd., iirc. I hope I calc'd it correctly. I was unsure of my memory of what Dad said he had put in it, as well as the a, d, and e and ctc. I have been trying to verify the amounts the last few days before continuing.

14# of Rabon will do 2k# of minerals.
14# = 224 oz.
224 oz / 2000# minerals= 0.112 oz per 1# of mineral.
.112 X 50# mineral = 5.6 ounces of Rabon per 50# bag of minerals

9.88 lbs. of pure Rabon per ton of mix would give you a concentration of .494% in the finished product which is the level on most minerals. (2000/.00494=9.88 lbs.) Since this 9.88 is only 7.76% Rabon 9.88/.0776= 127.32 lbs. per ton of mix or 3.18 lbs. per 50 lb. bag.
