Well, even if you have no faith in EPD's those animals with better EPD's for the certain traits will more than likely out-perform those with lower EPD's. Take Lot 1 https://herdbook.org/simmapp/action/animalSearch.AnimalSearchAction?eventSubmit_performAnimalSearch=T&animalNumbers=2849841 We can see by Ultrasound data that his Marb matches his EPD for Marbling --terrible BF data matches his EPD's REA data does not match his EPD data, but may have a lot to do with that terrible frame score. His feed efficiency data is pretty bad which happens a lot with the Fleck influence cattle of yesteryear as Bold Future is. We can see in his EPD's Terrible CE, BW, MCE and so on 8.3 Frame is terrible --he would have been popular in the late 70's when the Chi-Angus were popular. But his genetics kinda reflect the 70's. Bulls are made by their Sire and Maternal Grand Sire and in this case we have Bold Future (MGS) who was great in 1990, but can you imagine the genetic change that has occurred in the last 25 years. Then we have the Sire a Son of Mo Better, which represents generations of poor calving ease low marbling your basic below average API and TI cattle. Not much good for keeping replacements and not much good for a terminal sire either -- On a positive note his Dam has a fairly good progeny report --looks like she has calved on time fairly well over the last 5 calves --although no data for 2014. https://herdbook.org/simmapp/action/animalSearch.AnimalSearchAction?eventSubmit_switchTemplate=T&template=progenyReport&animalNumber=2417909 I think in this case a better understanding of EPD's would be helpful. If she raises a good calf -- put an embryo in her and stop breeding her to poor performers.
