we didn't get it real bad like most did around here. just south of us they are underwater. roads completely washed out.. and I mean like 10' deep washed out. Ford dealership underwater.. etc. they were saying record rainfall amounts . no sure on totals.

It’s that time of year in Texas!
It was us last spring we got 36” in a month last year.
They built Sam Rayburn on a creek of a river to catch these spring floods.

We had eight inches from Wednesday night through this Sunday morning, two inches a day.
Luckily, it was spaced out with no real downpours, at least here on the farm. The hollows and streams carried it away pretty well.
Flooding of major rivers like the Kentucky, Licking and Ohio are another story and this one will go down in the record books.

Three years ago, friends with registered Herefords in an adjoining county lost all of their fall calves to flood.
From what he described, it is fortunate that he wasn’t drowned too attempting to save some.
The flooding this week and weekend here is major.
A couple days ago a child was swept away going to the school bus stop in the county of our state capital.
A house also washed down a river there too.
Around here in the eastern hillls and mountains, I think most schools probably knew to close down as a lot of the roads can quickly get impassable from water.
Some communities are flooded out.
My wife and I have been talking about the size and scale of several of these storms and weather events over the last several months that just affect so many people through such a large area of the country.
Where we are we are on a high point on a hill, and like someone else said the it runs through the holllers pretty wild but most of the water damage we would have on us is from down trees and water gaps.
We’ve sustained quite a bit of wind damage lately, and seeing so much destruction and loss from wind and floods affecting so many is just heartbreaking for them.

A few weeks ago in SW Oregon it rained 7" in a day on already soaked ground for a total of 9". We woke up to this. Note rain gauge.
A couple of hours later it looked like this.
The water rose fast but only the pony had to swim out. We moved the cattle across the road and were very fortunate.
Down on the mainstem of this river is a huge flat flood plain valley. Hundreds of cattle drowned there swimming up against fences. My neighbor said he had cattle swimming in three counties but he managed to save them all. Some of my friends had a foot of flood water in their house and now the lower part has to be rebuilt while they live in a travel trailer. These are dear old people in poor health. Now the wife is in the hospital with pneumonia.

We're visiting family in central AL, but friends/neighbors back home in western KY are keeping us posted. Next door neighbor had recorded 14 inches of rain Thurs & Fri., and it rained pretty much all day Saturday.
Photographer at nearby Lake Beshear posted a photo, Sat. Morning, of water coming ver close to going over the top of the dam, despite a raging torrent flowing out through the emergency spillway.
