Did you all hear about that girl from GA I think it was, she went zip lining but it broke and she fell into a swampy body of water, got a gash in her leg, 21 inches long, got it stitched up, but within 24 hours it was determined that the bacteria that eats flesh was in her body. She had her leg, foot and hands amputated so far, it just strikes me as kind of scary that there is a bacteria organism out there like this that can do this-plus I can't imagine being so young and carefree and now having to go thru all of this.

I don't know much about it cept what I have read and apparently the bacteria thrives in low oxygen enviroment. If it were me I would insist on being put in a hypobaric chamber. I also would think her immune system had to be compromised.

when i was a teen,, we were fishing in the little river that runs through our home town... i hung my lure up, gave the rod and reel to a buddy, waded out to untangle it... friend had pressure on the line and when i got it free,, the lure stuck in my leg... didnt think much of it.. next day i ran a fever and chills, this in the middle of summer.. after that every thing i ate made me sick as a dog when i pee'd it was black as coffee..... it was hepatitis """yellow jaundice""

Like cellulitis or something else? I know someone who got cellulitis, don't know anyone who died of it/got bits amputated but it seems to be relatively common.

Old neighbors 15 yo daughter just got out of the hospital after being in for 4 months with the stuff. She lost all her upper thigh, most of her butt cheek, and almost died. Never made the news. It's more and more common. Kinda like MRSA. Another reason why I'm awful particular about antibiotics in the animals and my family

Oh boy, now you have something else to worry about. Maybe thats why your hands are swollen up. Just kidding I hope.

We seem to be getting more and more things that kill us or make us sick. Couple of years ago I got a fish tapeworms from drinking bad water in Canada. It was a bitch to get rid of and CDC told me these things are headed south. This variety originated in Finland, and can be spread by bears and wolves as well as fish.. Only way to kill em is to boil your water for 3 minutes.

I haven't been around lately but just happened to stop by and read this thread. I also just happened to read this article on CNN. Don't you think it's time to get your arm checked out? It's not anything to fool with. I can't imagine NOT taking this bacteria seriously. Good luck and I hope it is nothing but please get it checked.

Can't get the thing to post. I will try again.

There has been two more cases in Ga. All three have been in the northern zone. Scary stuff no doubt.

a lady who just had twins, after delivery she noticed a bruise on her leg, when she went home it was 3 x 5" big, she is a paramedic, when she got fever, and it swelled up her husband took her to the er, while they were waiting it spread 1/4" every half hour, she was diagnosed with the flesh eating bacteria, had 7 ops so far. The other guy is a landscape contractor, vomited, chills, went to his doctor and had the same thing, he is right down the hall from the girl who fell in from the zip line. I think the Mother of twins is in a different state-but how scary is this. They say we all have some of these bugs normally in our system, and under the right conditions-they turn into this. They say preventative is always use a antibiotic when you get a cut, and wash your hands-however I don't think that would have helped the girl in GA, as her gash was 21" long, and required staples, and obviously the organism was already in there, after she fell into the swamp-must be real scary for her and her family
