We had our first Hooks Broadway calf. I was a little concerned, since after using him on heifers, I heard some horror stories. But his EPDs only got better with the last update... And I see why now! This little dandy was born yesterday, out of a 22 month old heifer. He weighed all of 48 pounds, and she had him so quickly, I missed the birth. He was already sucking, even though he could hardly stand and was still wet, when I found him. Very vigorous. I bred several heifers to him, so now I am really eager to see the rest. Plus, all that white! The heifer had no white, her dam has no white, and none of the calves that she had had have ever had any white. The sire of the heifer is also solid. Broadway has a small white spot on his face... So I was expecting a solid black calf. A nice surprise...
