Ok, got her home. no major problems had her penned up for a day or so. she seemed a little nervous. at first when i would go check on her. but as the day went on she calm down a little. So i let her out. in the pasture. she ran around checkn for leaks in my fence but i think its solid. that was sat. When i left for work this morn. she was eating grass. I put the water trough in the corral, is that the best place for it? or should i add another outside of the corral ? doesn't seemed like she went near that corral again. we have been getting a alot of rain so i don't know if she needed to get to the water yet. I also left hay and feed in there hoping to get her back in there. Should i of maybe kept her in the corral longer? or it really doesn't matter. And what's next just leave her be. ?? till she gets use to her new home? And when i bring the other one home i'm guessing corraling her to for the day or at least over night becuse i'll have one loose and one penned up plus i'll be at work and won't beasble to watch her. any suggestions?

I'd leave the water trough in the corral. Cattle are herd animals. They are more comfortable in a group. If it's not going to rain, you might put some feed in the feed trough and let her find it when she goes to water. Then, when you bring the other one home, leave her penned up. The loose one will probably come to her. When you get them in the pen together, feed them something. It doesn't have to be much, but if you can make coming into the corral a pleasant experience for them it will make your life easier in the future.
 
yes, thanks that's what i was a thinkin. just needed reassurance. new to all this cattle stuff. And i try to put into use all of the friendly advice i get. After i get the other one home and settled, What's my next move? sit back and let'em get comfortable for a spell? I'd really like to tag them just in case they do wonder off.

For all new cattle we receive, I do the following:

- Vaccinate upon arrival with Electroid 7 (Blackleg) and Virashield 6 + VL6
- Worm with pour on
- Provide hay and fresh water at all times
- Feed a small amount of mixed feed once a day (around 3-4 lbs)
- In 3-4 weeks, vaccinate again (booster)
- Ear tag, brand or mark in any other way you prefer.
- Turn cattle out to pasture to either get bred or grow out
 
If she has decent pasture, she'll probably end up letting that hay rot.

They'll go to the water when it is time.
 
Anytime we feed grain or sweet feed, we always do it in the corral. My cows will just about run over you to get into the corral. Don't have to round them up for that! :banana:
