We are sitting on pins and needles here. April heavy rains grew lots of grass. No rain since has made for lots of dry grass. About a week ago the wind blowing caused some power lines to bounce on each other. The sparks started a fire. It was 8:30 in the evening. It was only 50 some degrees that night. The guys said it burned like a hot day time fire in August. Not a cool night fire in June. Burned 1,700 acres. Would have been much more but some irrigated alfalfa, the freeway, and the truck stop sort of funneled it in. The next stop was the Snake river. Half a mile of water makes a pretty good fire break. We have had half a dozen fires already. So far we have been pretty lucky. Nothing has got away yet but the conditions are sure right for another big one. There are thunder storms predicted for Friday. I hope there is lots of rain anywhere there is a lightning strike.
