Hello all,

I have a steer that i intend to take to the "spa" after a 90 day corn finish. I'm looking for some guidance on when to start that process. No cattle scale...based on my last round of measurements (6/12/17) Heart Circumference: 66", Length:46". Using the Heart*Heart*Length/300 equation that yields 667 lb. At 1.5 lb/day he should currently be around 712 lb. Based on the photos below taken a few days ago i believe he is closer to 800-900 lb but i'll admit i'm not experienced enough to visually judge these things...

If i assume 2 lb/day gain on corn * 90 days = 180 lb during the finish process so ill need to start him around 1000 lb.

Looking for some confirmation on both estimated weight and my plan for finishing.

From what i can see brisket is not filled out yet but is starting to, no fat deposits at tail head, and about 1/8" fat over 13th rib.

I'm not sure what breed it is but given the looks and the type of cattle around here (North Missouri) ide guess some type of black angus cross. Someone however mentioned the farmer i got him from raises mostly simmental...

I'd also Like some weight estimates of the heifer (black angus). No measurements on her yet...but ide guess 600-650 lb

You're way short on the corn. Way way short. I'd be hoping for 20 lb consumption a day of a good blend with corn. I hope your feeding cracked corn and I'd mix a grower with it. The grass doesn't look all that great. I hope the rest of the pasture is much better.

These photos probably show the worst pasture areas they have access to...they get a fresh strip of the actual pasture each afternoon.

I feed them 3-4 lb of corn each day simply to supplement the pastures. I intend to ramp them up to 20-25 lb cracked corn per day for the 90 day finishing period

I'm looking for input on my weight estimates and how near they are to the starting point of the final 90 days.

I think your current weight estimate is close. Only way to know for certain is to weigh him. Weigh truck and trailer empty at truck stop or grain elevator, load calf up and reweigh, subtract difference. He should weigh 1000 lbs before you put final 90 days on :2cents:
