what do most of you do out there

fertilize first then spay later or do you spay first and then fertilize??
with the drought last year(here in texas) i think we might see a lot of weeds this year.

If I am just useing N then I mix it together. If I am useing granular I spray for weeds first. I don,t want to feed weeds.
Although some say weed die better if they have been fertilized.

Due to sporadic rainfall this year and the drought expected to last into August/ Sept, I am actually going to fertilize this week and spray in about 2 weeks.

Normally, I agree with Novatec - spray first then fertilize the desirables. A lot of times we don't fertilize until late April early May.

I think the theory is that the weeds should be sprayed when they are vigorously growing for best results.

I slash first and then spray the regrowth at about 3 months . Works well
Spraying old slowed down growth doesnt give a good kill.

The poisons are getting weaker and more profitable and the weeds more resistant so end result of spraying is going down twofold.I hand pull or chip out with a hoe ,often and you can always tell a real farmer.

He dont just stand there talking to you he will be pulling weeds as he talks and will have a permanent stoop!

I had rather spray before fertilizing. But right now the biggest weed problem i am having is horse thistle. And if you spray it before it is in bloom you are wasting time and money on chemical.

And usually the Spring rains in my area starts way before the horse thistle starts blooming. So i have to put fertlizer out before the feilds get to wet to get a spreader truck over them.

I will garuntee you if you are tring to get rid of thistle you will have to wait until it starts to bloom before chemial will do any good on it.
