My son's PB Simbrah steer , home grown from a retire show heifer, weights 1172 at 10 months. He has a 3.57 pound per day gain. He looks okay, but not a lot of finish. He is at the county show right now.

It looks like he will have another steer project for next year. This most recent calf was born 1/07. We are hoping to take him to Dallas or San Antonio. If you have shown American steers, what weight do we want him at? Did you have a hard time putting finish on an american steer? We didn't implant the one used as a reference above. Will an implant help with the finish?
Also, how do you get tags for the majors and when will they tag them for Dallas?

They will validate steers for the majors, I think in June. His ag teacher should be taking orders for the tags shortly.

Mine showed a reg. Simbrah steer several years back and we didn't get him to finish until about 30 days or so after the show. Then this was just finish for us to eat. The other steers that he has had have always been american/english or american/exotic cross with no problems in getting them finished.

On another note: We just came out of the Commercial Steer Show at HLSR, everyone of the steers that had a little ear or showed any Brahman influence were graded as standard.

Your going to need a calf from last spring to be able to compete in Dallas. Look for a cross calf because 9 times out of 10 in the americans, a cross will beat a pure calf.
