Feeder calf prices

Help Support CattleToday:

Maybe it's a regional thing, but feeder prices are very strong here. We sold a group of spring feeders (black/red angus and charolais/RA cross) a week ago that averaged 550 lbs and brought over $1.20/lb-to me $600+ for a feeder steer isn't a bad price!

Well I guessed wrong. My 41 weanlings are still going down in value every day.

A typical 450 pound calf is now worth $90 less than in September.

When will it turn around?

Feeder cattle prices will come back up when the cash corn market and the corn futures market goes back down.

Not until next spring Gabby. Corn hasn't even topped out yet. Argentina is not exporting corn until they have their reserves built up so that is driving up the price of corn.

Import of beef (or should I say bovine, since some of it is such low class) hasn't stopped.

Also the drought areas have flooded the market. If you can't afford to keep them until spring then I would sell this month as it will drop more in Dec/Jan.
