featherneck hereford?

I heard someone talking about featherneck herefords from the 70s or 80s. I am not a hereford person so I really didn't know what they were talking about. Was this a breeder from back in the day? A bloodline?

All I know is that they said they were horned and the best herefords one could get according to this individual.

As for whether featherneck herefords were better than the others, Fads come and go. Right now dark red solid marked (no red on neck or legs) polled herefords are in favour in my neck of the woods; however, the horned herefords breeders seem to perfer "yellow" (lighter red) herefords.

That was my assumption, but then the guy went on to say they were horned and I thought maybe I was mistaken. Like I said, I wasn't for sure and I didn't want to ask the guy what he was talking about because I got the idea I would be stuck for another 20 minutes if I did, ifyou catch my drift.

RVF I have noticed the horned breeders in my area are going with more of a dark red color in their cattle. Alot of the Herefords are losing their "feathernecks" due to it, but if you cull right you can get it bred back in.

A lot of Baldie breeders say that they want to do away with the feather necks. A lot more "red necked" bulls are being promoted by Hereford breeders as a result.
