I am in the process of watching The Longest Day on TCM as I chop the onions and bell peppers for the meat loaf. I started thinking about the D-Day invasion. My dad was in WWII and he is 83 now. I guess there won't be anyone around in too many years that were there or who remember it.

Anyway! WWII movies have always been favorites of mine. The Longest Day is probably my favorite WWII flick. What about you'all?

'the Dam Busters', I knew one of the pilots who flew in them planes. and '633 Squadron' my Uncle flew with this lot, they have pesonal meanings to me. and are great films.

BATON
THEY WERE EXPENDABLE

Just a few, but basically anything with the "Duke" in it.

did he not, according to Hollywood win the war single handed  and the Alimo and the Indian wars, come to think of it all the things he was ever in, can't say I ever see him loose, sure would want to be on his side if I had to. :P

I have many, many favorites...a few of which are:

"Go for Broke"

"Thirty seconds over Tokyo"

"Objective Burma"

" A walk in the sun"

"A Bridge too far"

I prefer these to the newer ones because of the language. They are ,for the most part of course, purely propaganda, but entertaining nevertheless. :cboy:

Patton
Run Silent, Run Deep
The Enemy Below
The Longest Day
Tora Tora Tora
Midway
Saving Private Ryan

Too many to name.

Had an uncle in the second wave at Utah Beach. Got through that then was killed on D-Day + 3. Dad was a Seabee in the Pacific.

Patton
The Longest Day
Das Boot
The Great Escape
To Hell and Back
Battleground
Victory at Sea and The World at War are very good documentaries

That's a few of my favorites on World War II

Yes, Patton. I like that one. The Longest Day is kinda hokey, but I think that is why I like it. I really like all those "cast of thousands" movies with all the stars in them. And I prefer the older movies because they are more G rated. Watched them all as a kid.

Tora, Tora, Tora and Midway.

Tora Tora Tora is a good movie...Midway was a good movie except for the cheesy love scenes

Excellent time for a bathroom/snack break! ;-)

Juts remembered another one. The Americanization of Emily. I particularly like the part where Jim Garner talks to Emilys mother.
