Pro: He sure is pretty. He looks like he could have been a Grand Champion steer just about anywhere.

Con: He looks like a steer. He's out of Heat Wave (so you're gonna hafta look for high BW's out of him and for crippled calves.

All in all, I think that he is one of many Heat Wave sons that should have been steers. There are just too many of them buggers runnin around. Now, I'm not knockin Heat Wave, but he was a 130 lb C-section calf that is now a big ol cripple. He does sire some really pretty calves. There are alot of other good black bulls that sire good calves that aren't out of him. Sunseeker, Ali, Hannibal, and Paddy O' Malley are bulls that I would use. Sunseeker and Paddy are fast becoming replacements for Heat Wave. In a couple years, I think they will be dominating like Heat Wave is now. JMO

thanks for the info. everything you said makes sense. i don't know much about all this club calf business, i'm trying to ease myself into it. a buddy of mine and i have been showing longhorns all our lives, and we're starting to get into the clubbies a lil bit. he's already got a real nice heifer, and we spend a lot of hours looking around the internet and in magazines at all these bulls just trying to figure everything out. I do like Hannibal, Ali and Sunseeker of the bulls you mentioned, i'm not a big fan of Paddy though. I'll probably change my mind about him though, that happens pretty regular.

Do you know anything about Johnny Walker Red? I really like his looks, but can't say i know anything about him after that. What about Purple Eclips, same thing goes for him as Johnny Walker.

Ryan- Johnny Walker Red may look good in pictures but from what I've heard, he's a really small bull that lacks in depth. Hair and a good Photographer can fix just about anything. Purple Eclipse is a good bull. He lives about an hour and a half away from me so I've actually had the chance to see him in person. He isn't the biggest bull out there, but he's solid. he has some of the best genetics that Shorthorns can offer. My best cow is a half sib to him (both out of Sonny). May I ask, are you going to be breeding these bulls to cow wise? If you're breeding to heifers, I would either breed to Ali (purebred Maine) or Jake's Proud Jazz (purebred Shorthorn) both bulls are calving ease like you wouldn't imagine. Their calves are also selling and showing like crazy. You can e-mail me or PM me if you feel like it. Hope this helps

Thanks for all the info. I really appreciate it. To answer your question, probably not going to be breeding any club calves anytime soon, really. just starting getting really interested in them here recently and have started trying to follow them some. trying to learn as much as i can about them until i have necessary resources available to get in there and get some. my buddy recently got 4 heifers, 3 bred and one thats only 8 1/2 months old, so thats got me really excited about them.
