If you were asked to make reservations at a nice restaurant for a family reunion and the attendees will consist of 2 grandmothers, 2 grandfathers, 3 mothers, 3 fathers, 3 daughters, 3 sons, 2 mother-n-laws, 2 father-n-laws, 1 son-n-law, 1 daughter-n-law, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. How many people will you need to make reservations for? Hint, its not 26.

I needed help too. The grandmothers and grandfathers total of 4. They are all mothers and fathers, so if there are 3 mothers and 3 fathers we have 2 new people - 1 mother and 1 father for a total of 6. The two monther-n-laws and 2 father-n-laws are both the grandparents so we don't count them again. The son-n-law and daughter-n-law are the 2 additional parents, so we don't count them again. The 2 sons and 2 daughters are their children which makes 10 people.

Confusing isn't it!?! guess this is a good reason not to practice polygamy.

That's a good one Jo . Wish I had seen it earlier . Ryan had it nailed anyway :tiphat: .
