Exciting Sunday at Church

A church not far from me had a little excitement Sunday after passing out the rattlesnakes. One of them bit an elderly lady who apparently "lacked the faith" and everyone panicked and two other snakes bit their handlers in the chaos - one was bitten twice. It hasn't made the paper or the news yet and it will probably be kept quiet being we are in the Bible belt along with it being a felony in Georgia punishable by death to practice this test of faith. Of all the days for me to not be visiting a different church.

Went to one of those churches once when I was 19. It only took one trip for me. Never do that again.

I respect other folks right to worship but that snake stuff is not for me.

I thought serpents were believed to be on the devils side?

Doesnt sound like a church I would want to go to. I believe but I dont really care for snakes

Never understood the pew jumping, dancing in the aisles and the jibberish being jabbered. Made me want to get out quick and find the closest bar.

I was Catholic at the time and thought for sure that somehow God knew I was in the wrong place and would have one of those snakes strike me dead if given the chance.

My new motto instantly became "Feets don't fail me now"! :lol2:

I never have been to one of those snake ceremonies. Have been to a church where the preacher was a self professed financial guru that claimed he could take all your savings and get you a 30% return on it. Turns out he was wrong. Turns out he was a flim flam man. I know two or three that gave him all the hard earned money they had accumulated after being fleeced by the great Ostrich bamboozle of the eighties. They never got a dime of it back. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I used to coon hunt with a snake handling preacher. Invited me to church for sunday morning service, every saturday night,we hunted together. Would tell him my grandmother would turn over in her grave if I did. I still see him every now and then. But not in church.

One thing is for sure, I wouldn't have gotten smacked by my grandmother for falling asleep in that church.

I'd be too scared to fall asleep in a snake church. Partly for fear of getting snake bit and partly for fear of missing some excitement. Never been to one myself. They handle them on occassions at a church near me but they don't announce it when they do. I would like to see it just for the sake of seeing it. But in my faith I don't believe you should test God. I saw a History Channel show on snake handlers in WVa. It is not illegal there, or wasn't at the time. The guy they interviewed had been bitten multiple times and was still alive, so I guess you could say the faith works.

What is it they say "You can't fix stupid"?? A guy around here loves to catch rattlesnakes. He's been bitten lots of times. Missing about half of each finger now but still does it. A lot of the "less faithful" have died from the bites too.

Comedian Wendy Bagwell went to one of those churches and he was up front when the snakes came out. He said he looked at the person next to him and asked where the back door was. He said there aint one....Wendy asked....I wonder where do they want one! When he refused to handle a snake a lady asked him " if the Lord commanded you to pick up the serpent you wouldn't pick him up"? Wendy responded by saying " yes Ma'am I surely would.......but he didn't and I ain't"!

my great aunt was on the cover of a popular magizine years ago holding a snake. ive got alot kin that or out there ... but one thing i wont do is question their faith, but you won't catch handling one... axe handle maybe :cowboy:

This sounds like some churches out of Africa! I have never heard about the lot using snakes, please tell me more or if you prefer give me a link to look up. Why not just play russian rolette, then they don't have to look after the snakes?

seems to me they be better suited in praise and worship then handling snakes and drinking poison, yet some these same folks will look down their nose at you for drinking a beer
