I'm getting ready to have my best cow flushed by our vet. We currently feed vigortone mineral. Does anyone have any advice on whether this is an adequate mineral for a donor cow or not? If not, do you have some recommendations? How about for recips.

Thanks for any advice.

Vigortone should be adequate. I switched to them when our local feed dealer started carrying them. They came out and took several soil and grass samples for the area ranches to formulate their mineral for the area.

that's what we use and we have great flush results

I use the sweetlix "copperhead " and we to get what we feel is good results. My local guy is pushing the Cargill Onyx for $22.00 per bag. I think thjat is just to much for a mineral. I hear that the vigortone mineral is plenty good enough .

keep the donors on the hungry side, when i first started flushing alot of cows about 2 years ago, i let my donors eat and eat, got them on the big side. The Vet told me to back them off, put them on stalks or summer pasteur and make them work for their meals, and my egg results when up in a hurry. For the Recipts I always use something with a lot of copper in it. Kansas State Uniersity has a lot of trials on their website that shows 75% of all cattle don't have proper copper levels, and copper has been traced to reproduction. Results this year where great for me, 83% conception rate on recipts. It helps in my opinion.

You are in Florida, correct. You are getting advice from Kansas, Texas, etc. My suggestion would be to contact your local extention agent or university, and get some advice from your part of the world.
