This should get everyone fired up again.
But visiting with our EPD guru for the CAA I have really questioned the benefits of this tool or perhaps this is a joke.
From a previous posting, it was stated that a bull with 80-85% accuracy could still make a big change if he hasn't been used in many herds. That seems weird and I have a handle on the stats and deviations regarding change.
Where I question things are, the cows in our herd will not likely rise to a high rate of accuracy, certainly not over 85%. Knowing what we know and how EPD's in the percentile can still change, they never truly become accurate. AI sires who sire thousands of calves will but it takes two to tango and our cows will remain virtually unproven. So what are we shooting for by using the EPD's? Is this a hoax that allows for marketing to happen at it's finest?
Are the EPD's (not all) that have been implemented for beneficial reasons? The latest EPD's with the Dollar Values, is this something the Stats people have analyzed previously knowing that this will carry this all to a marketing level?
It feels like we are chasing the carrot without getting a nibble.
I realize some comments are extreme but for arguments sake I have thrown them in. On the other hand there is some validity in some statements I have made.
