For a small lot to wean calves..

Another lot to keep my bull. I only turn him out for fall breeding.

Would not recommend an electric fence for a calf weaning lot. Weaning calves will spook easily and forget to respect an electric fence when that happens.

I prefer Hi Tensile electric fence for new permanent fence. I use a lot of 14ga electric wire on the inside of preexisting fence.

I use 12.5 gauge HT. For steel wire, the bigger size won't have as much voltage loss. It probably doesn't matter for a small pen though.

weaned calves need room to run if they get spooked, i leave a couple cows with them to keep calmer, use 14 ga electric wire with barb on top so they can see it
