Not sure why this has been in the news--never much doubt at all if he was guilty or not.
Yep, he's a nutcase, but his only real specified reasoning for the murders was mostly that "they wouldn't talk to me".

These counties around here don't play games. You are better off going before the judge. A jury would have hung him if that would have been an option.

Heard it mentioned a number of times in TV coverage that the prosecution did not want to seek the death penalty.
