That's how the Jews then called three days, all days that get touched are included. You've got to put it into historical context. I imagine if we knew Greek, it would also help.

You don't, because the crucifixion occurred on Thursday not Friday.
I'll try my best to explain my understanding.

Few early Christians understood the Jewish calendar and sabbaths.
By assuming Saturdays were the only sabbaths, Friday was incorrectly identified as the crucifixion. But there are also special sabbaths [high holy days] throughout the year. The Feast of Unleavened Bread is a date specific sabbath, the 15th day of the month of Nisan and is the special sabbath mentioned in John 19:31

During Passover week there were 2 sabbaths. The Feast of Unleavened Bread
on Friday was one of 2 sabbaths that week, along with the regular Saturday.
The crucifixion occurred on Thursday and Jesus was placed in the tomb before sundown, the start of the special sabbath. (Jewish day begins at sundown)

Exodus - the first Passover
Nisan 10 - select lamb, separate and inspect for blemish until the 14th day
Nisan 14 - in the evening slaughter lamb, paint the blood on the door posts,
roast the meat and eat it all that same night and for 7 days eat unleavened bread until the 21st day of the month.
Nisan 14 became known as preparation day and Nisan 15 a holy sabbath

Over 100 yrs ago astronomers at the London Royal Observatory calculated that the First Palm Sunday would have fallen on Sunday Nisan 10 of the Jewish calendar, making Nisan 14 preparation day a Thursday and Friday the special Jewish sabbath.

I love how the word aligns with selecting a lamb on Nisan 10 and inspecting for 3 days 11, 12, 13 before the sacrifice on the 14th, but I hate how traditions of men, such as Good Friday as the crucifixion, confuses and distracts believers. I hope this helps in understanding.

Son of Butch> Todah Rabah and Shalom Aleychem! As a Messianic I knew that and wondered how long or if anyone would respond
with a biblical explanation. Your random act of kindness in responding confirms That the Word of My mouth shall not return to Me empty!
I would suspect that the observance of Pasat is increasing diametrically by Christians as time goes by. I was raised in a chocolate bunny, hide
the easter egg house which goes to show that any day can be religious but not necessariy biblical. It would not be my choice to retrace the
steps that brought me to this point but it was worth every tear of shame and regret. Baruch HaShem Adonai! Thanks again!

Friday dead, that’s one day. Saturday dead, that’s 2 days. Sunday dead, that’s 3 days. Sunday resurrected. The Bible does not say 3-24hour days.

Correct. He rose on the third day. Not hard to interpret even in modern times.

I see Ferd agrees with Buck, however neither agrees with the Bible or even Google!!
This is not a condemnation as I was taught and thought the same thing for over 50 years.
As Son of Butch (and the Bible) point out, the Feast of Unleavened Bread is a date specific sabbath.
Therefore it was necessary Yeshua (Jesus) be buried Thursday as the (next day) was the Feast of
Unleavened Bread (followed the next day by the regular sabbath) .
