My son can hardly wait til tomorrow.
For some reason school is out and FWP decided to open up the general season for just 12-15 year old hunters.

A few people are boo hooing about it, but I like it.

Found out we had some ding bat take a shot at him last year during hunting season, from the road, when he was out scouting around.
He put a big strip of orange duct tape around his hat. Not too sure that will help.

That sounds good. If I was in charge it would be a federal holiday on the opening day of deer and dove season.

I took my daughter out yesterday to practice shooting and she was hitting a two inch group at sixty yards with her mamma's 243. We'll have to see if she is this good when they look like Bambi.

Got his FIRST buck!

He missed the bigger buck, but this one is pretty nice for a first one. A 6x5 or an 11 point to some. ;-)
He wants to have it mounted. It will cost $595, but the first one should be saved in some way.

I will get a few pictures up soon. We skinned it because it is pretty warm right now. There was around an inch of fat on his back strap. Never saw a deer so fat. It was tough skinning around all that fat.
Going to wrap up the meat and put it in the shop fridge to cool it.

Jo, I hope your with her when she gets her first deer. I was blessed to be with my son when he shot his first doe and buck,I will never forget either hunt. Eight years old for the doe and ten for the 8pt. buck.

Congrats on the buck. That's great. Check with your taxidermist on having a European mount done. They boil all the meat off the skull and then bleach it out and mount it on a plaque. We do that with almost everything these days.

You can see how heavy the antlers are. Haven't seen them this thick in years.

That is a nice buck and a good lookin kid. He cracks me up. That is the same pose as all 3 of mine with their first buck or bull. No smile, NRA t-shirt, Redneck hat.LOLOL

BTW what do you reckon the ADG is on that boy. You could sure send him down here we need some beef on the OL for next years football team.

If he adds up to his EPD's he should stand around 6' tall.LOL.

Don't get mad, but he would rather hunt and fish then do sports. He only watches the Super Bowl.
Keeps getting bugged to join the football team, but he has no interest in it.

Doesn't bother my ILH my middle son played football for 4 yrs and was All State the last 2 but declined to Wrestle his senior year and at the time was ranked 2nd in the state @ 215lbs in the preseason standings. His brother had graduated and the only reason he ever wrestled was to be with his big brother and he wanted to work on Academics so he didn't go out. I personally was a little bummed out since the kid who won it that year had never beat my son from kindergarden thru the 10th grade but it was his choice and I respected it. He also turned down a football scholarship for an Academic scholarship and that was OK too.

Tell your boy to stick to his guns(literally), and do what he believes is right for him!

Dropped the head off today.
He wants it in a semi sneak pose looking left. Should turn out pretty neat.

Jo he is going to get a set of 12x60 binoculers. Wants a few other hunting things.
Picked him up is own multi gun cleaning kit today. He always had mine. :D
