The hordes of hummingbirds here pulled out last night.
That’s two to three weeks earlier than normal.

Hasn’t been 105 in a while…..It's 87° here right now, on the way to 91°, but it felt like fall here this morning about daybreak.
@Rafter S ......WOW... our temps are going to be in the 80's and lows in the upper 50's to 60's for the next 10 days. This is west central Virginia.... But finally no forecast of wet weather for 10 days pretty much.
It was 52 this morning, coolest it has been since spring. Fall is coming.
Maybe I should have been more clear. The forecast at home next week is lows in the mid 70's and highs in the mid 90's. I'll be on vacation in the mountains in northern New Mexico
. . . I told my wife last weekend, her swimming pool days are about over for this year...
That is like the deer in our fields here. 10-20 in a herd everywhere. Son's girlfriend is a very good shot and has gotten 10 on the kill damage permit this summer and most have been does... I have a doe and twins that likes to spend their time next to the clothesline and the twins lay down right there under it... Ignore me when I come out on the deck until I go down the steps and holler... Counted 31 or 32 in the small lot between me and the Christmas tree farm next door... NO WONDER they demolished half my garden... and we have had lots of rain and it is GREEN here...View attachment 21100
48 this time of year is almost unheard of.
That’s in the creek bottle had 52 on top the hill.
Those temps are considered warm up here for summertime swimming @greybeard ... I know of several people that have pools that will not close them down until mid-Oct here...

Now we have a bear tearing up out sorghum-sudan field AND is into our corn field... a big boar bear they say 400+ lbs... and a sow with twins has been seen also. HOPE and pray they get another 20+ deer this year. We are overrun like you are with those hogs. Sure wish we were closer... I would love to get some of the 100+ size ones to put in the freezer....I cannot imagine the damage they are doing... at least the deer do not dig up the fields... just graze them to the dirt in the winter..
It's not the water temp. It's the air/wind when part or all of your wet body is out of the water. She doesn't like swimming in cold water?
We get it.....It's not the water temp. It's the air/wind when part or all of your wet body is out of the water.
Yesterday's water temp 1' below surface was 82 degF which was fine, but the wind made your skin feel a lot cooler. But even 82 is 16 deg below normal body temp.
I'm on blood thinners so I really feel it but I get used to it pretty easy.
In other greybeard world, I was stopped at a light in town and saw a pickup turn in front of me onto Constitution St here, pulling a gooseneck full of round bales.
Wife didn't understand the sigh I let out..
The adults bunch and leave first, the adolescents follow a week or so after. Two weeks ago we had a surge of humming birds CB. I'm not sure I have ever seen so many here at the house. They emptied a couple of feeders. Now we only have a few.
