ear problems

I'm new at this but I'll give it a go. We recently bought a two day old calf and just noticed he has puss coming out of one of his ears. Never seen it before on any other calfs, I taken a q-tip to make sure no critters was in there and there wasn't. What to do in Idaho.

Is it from inside his ear or somewhere on the outer part? Could be an injury or scab that has become infected, or a big bite.

Give him a good dose of penicillin. Sounds like an inner ear infection, if it were an infection of the outer ear, you should be able to see some swelling or a lump. We just treated a calf for an inner ear infection, both ears were infected. In 15 years of being around cattle this was the first I had ever seen. 2 doses of long acting penicillin cleared him up.
