I was looking at an 89 F350 the other day with a 7.3 and the E4OD automatic. Trans going bad. Thinking about getting it and changing it over to a 5 speed. Anyone here ever done it or know where I can get some information on the swap?

Thank You

If you could find a wrecked truck with a 5 speed in it would be the way to go.

You will need bell housing, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch pedal and linkage, and other things that I didn't list.

Good luck,

I agree, wrecked truck would be best. Otherwise the small items you might not be able to find at the junkyard might nickel and dime me to death. I don't mind the big obvious parts like crossmembers and clutches, but when it comes down to the particulars like pedal assemblies, safety switches and "what about the computer that used to run the automatic?", that's when I lose my patience. I just had a junkyard owner tell me that motor (89 7.3 idi) had to have a computer to run  - don't think I'll be doing much business with him.

That swap is a lot of work. If you're a good mechanic, go for it.
My .02 is buy it for a price you can afford and have the automatic fixed. Or, keep looking.
