Have not seen a good dust storm in some time. Had to come in and get out of it. Eyes don't blink good when there full of dust.

You want to define a "GOOD" dust storm? I remember years ago up in North Texas watching that red wall coming down from Oklahoma. I swear that stuff could get inside a can of beans sitting on the shelf.Z

Taken at 3:00 this afternoon. West wind with gusts up to 50 mph.

Just finally cleared up a little bit here. Everything had a brown hue to it. Everytime I blinked felt like there was sand paper on the back of my eyelids. Wind still blowin away, but has calmed very slightly. Already blew down the big wood sign over the front entrance.

It's an old parlor barn. It would have handled 6 cows at a time. The lots outside, however, are wonderful for sorting and penning and the chute with the headgate will accomodate eight 6-700 lb calves easily.

That barn was hit full on with that tornado and nothing happened to it. That's where we go when the weather gets rough...and where I would've gone when the tornado hit if I could've gotten there in time. Whoever built that thing built it to last forever, and ever...and to take a direct hit of whatever gets thrown at it.

our old dairy is a 4 on a side barn.my old eyes can spot old dairies in photos a mile off.looks like you could get that barn back up an milking pretty fast.

LOL.... dust storms happen all the time here. Gotta love Lubbock texas during this time of year. That dust burns your eyes, and stings when it hits your skin. :help:

We went to Wichita Falls today for a bull sale. I'd bet that you couldn't see more than a mile for the dust. And the wind was terrible. As we got back into Oklahoma, the dust thinned out; but the wind's still blowing HARD.

Wind blowing real hard here, too, but no dust. Still have lots of snow on the ground and supposed to get 1-2 inches of rain and/or ice tonight. Lost power about an hour ago, but just for a few seconds.

If it were to begin raining here right now, it would rain mud. :(

during the Summer months we often have a covering of sand on the cars in the mornings, it has blown all the way from Egypt, this is no lie, the winds can carry sand for miles apparently.

I'll tell you what! I have never seen it get that bad around here. We don't get many dust storms. Visibility was really limited and the winds were really something. Had to do emergency repairs on the barn roof and I think I lost enough shingles that I'm gonna make a claim on the roof.

Here's a question... When this thing was blowing in I smelled dirt in the air. I have never had that experience. Is this something that anyone else has experienced, or am I nuts? :o

I don't know honestly how any survived the Dust Bowl. My dad was there. He can tell stories.

They did not today but I have seen the stree lights come on in the middle of the day. Visibility this AM was less than 100 ft. Around 4 PM it calmed down.

I was out in it all day. My eyes have been washed out several times and they are still bloodshot.

Today is the first time I have milked a cow in years and years. Ouch! I forgot what that was like.

I haven't rope a calf in a long time either and it showed today. Doggone it I am going to be sore tomorrow. Maybe my eyes will get better overnight.

Lammie, today when it blew in I was at a CiCi's pizza for a b'day party for my nephew. When his grandmother and her sister-in-law were leaving, his grandmother said, "Can you smell the dirt and dust, Alice?" I told her that I had been smelling it for awhile...inside of CiCi's. Her sister-in-law said that it smelled like Lubbock. I said, "What?" She said, "I was raised in Lubbock. This is nothing unusual for Lubbock. I think all of Lubbock is blowing in here." I've heard that before about Lubbock.

YES...not only could I smell it, I could taste it...inside of CiCi's Pizza!

Van worked on fence until about 12:30 and came in. He said he couldn't take the wind and dirt/sand anymore. He slept all afternoon on the couch...until the Busch Race came on, anyway...
