Dummies Guide to....

National Cattle Breeders Association
Country of Origin labeling
R-Calf unite Stockgrowers of America

Okay, dumb ? but what does a newbie do with this info? It seems like there are a million associations that would like my money and my mouth shut, but are any of you actively involved with the NCBA or R-Calf?

Your local or state cattlemans association is probably affiliated with either NCBA or r-calf

NCBA is National Cattlemen's Beef Association

r-calf is Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund

Thank you for taking time to answer my question. Are the 2 similar in their intent?

Depends on who you talk to. They both claim to have the US cattleman's best interests at heart.

But the NCBA is working with the packers, as well as producers, because they see the cattle business as one big unit that needs to work together. If the industry works together, we can produce cattle that will satisfy consumers, increase demand and keep cattle prices good.

R-CALF sees the cattle business as a competition with the cattleman getting the dirty end of the stick. They want the packers not to be able to own cattle, they're involved with the group sueing to stop the beef checkoff, and they've teamed up with some questionable groups (in my mind, at least) to promote COOL.
