Should be a good game, I'm glad it's in Eugene. Ducks are ranked 18th and the Sooners are 15th. Looking forward to the game.

Where did the sooner name come from, I heard an announcer say where it came from but didn't believe him. His statement was that some settlers came to Okalahoma "sooner" then they were suppose to and the name was adopted by Okalahoma.

Go Ducks!

For that matter, where did the name Ducks come from?

Go Volunteers!!!

They have always been the ducks, because of all the rain we get. The two big schools are the U of O Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers, both with webbed feet.

As a side note the Duck mascot is Donald Duck, the university has a contract with Walt Disiney to use Donald Ducks image and they have used it since (I believe) the early 50's. Acouple of years ago Oregon wanted to change Donalds face they where using to make him look meaner... Walt said no.

I do like the Vols... they sent us Onterio Smith a few years ago. :D

I'm not gonna swear to it, but I think that is how Oklahoma became known as the sooner state. Had to do with the land rush.

Well, I'm not talking ducks or sooners. I am talking Eagles...Rio Vista Eagles.

My precious grandson...the love of my heart...begins his first year of school football. He's played peewee ball for several years, but now it's the real deal...7th grade football!

He'll be playing right tackle, and will most likely be switched in and out on the offensive line...he's a big boy!

Thursday at 5, I will be in the Rio Vista stands screaming my lungs out and most likely embarrasing him for all it's worth, altho I think he's kind of used to that now.

I can't wait! :D

Yes that is how the term "SOONERS" came to be. Weeks before the land run that opened the cherokee strip for settlement. A number of people crossed the line of departure into the strip at night to claim there special plot of land. If they were caught in the strip by the Calvery they were shot on sight. Early entrance into the strip was severly forbidden by the Army with no questions asked you were just shot! On September 16 1893 at 12:00 noon the cannon was fired and the race was on to stake your claim.

Just thought I'd help out since I live here. :D
